from a few days before, he also gave a
Goodnight and his blessing. One thing we hope
to do in the future is to engage the young adults
to become more active leaders and to provide
an environment from which we can draw
vocations.
St. Patrick’s Eve had a special supper
prepared for us by Agostinha, our cook, with
streamers, wearin’-of-the-green topped off with
Irish coffee.
During his visit Fr. Richard met the
Salesian Cooperators, alumni, school staff
(over lunch before their spring break began),
said Mass for the school children and met the
newly formed young parent Cooperator
candidates He also met each confrere
individually, and presided at two of our Sunday
Masses. His final conference before heading to
Edmonton was on the feast of St. Joseph. The
parish had prayed a daily novena in preparation
for the feast. We also had a guest deacon
preach at all the Masses that weekend on
orphaned, mission children during which close
to 100 were sponsored by our parishioners.
Our Monday Community Day outings
with 21 days of rain had us begin a community
ping-pong tournament. Our recent quarterly
day of recollection, when the rain stopped and
the sun came out, had us spend that quality
time at Westminster Abbey in Mission, B.C. --
Fr. Jan held the Polish communities three day
retreat, with a guest preacher. Last Wednesday,
the Polish women prepared a wonderful meal
for us as other Polish clergy joined us for
supper, and to help out at the two-hour
Reconciliation sacrament.
And today, March 31, is the Salesian
Cooperators’ sponsored 3-on-3 Basketball
Tournament. Forty-eight teams of various age
levels are keeping the Don Bosco Gym
hopping. Medallions for first, second and third
place team winners in all divisions, were
distributed at the end of day. It began at 9 a.m.,
ending at 5 p.m. Our parking lots are bulging to
overflowing. In the meantime, the younger set
were treated to games, prizes, ice cream, and
balloon sculpture by various clowns, Knights of
Columbus, alumni, CWL and many other
volunteers who helped to make this event a
great success.

MONTREAL Chapter Update. Chapter
preparations are well under way. The Chapter
Commission held its 2nd and last preparation
meeting on March 2. Thanks to all the
confreres who participated in the consultation
process in the local communities. We received
a lot of helpful data that will guide our Chapter
reflections.
YLC. Palm Sunday weekend, the YLC will
be holding its Retreat/Formation session for the
coordinators of Happy Daze Camp. As part of
their pastoral preparation, they will attend the
diocese of Montreal World Youth Day
Celebration, which includes a 3 hour
catechesis, praise and worship, procession
through downtown Montreal, to conclude with
Eucharist presided by Cardinal Turcotte. On
Sunday, March 11, the YLC held its 10th annual
Fashion & Talent Festival, which drew 120
youth participants and a crowd of several fans.
At the event, 4 pioneers of the YLC were
honoured with the YLC’s Community Builder
Award. The event raised spirits and $3,000.
--During the March break, Fr. Richard
animated a day of retreat for Secondary 1 & 2
students at Tiberiade chalet in St. Jerome.
Missione Maria Ausiliatrice. On February
16 & 17, L’Oratorio, our Italian theatre group
inspired by Don Bosco’s Oratory, performed a
comedy at the Leonardo Da Vinci Cultural
Centre in Montreal. Their talent and hard work
raised $7,000 for the Salesian missions in
Darfour.
