Mary visits every Past Pupil family in Vietnam!

CAU BONG: 5th August 2008 -- The Vietnam Salesian Alumni Federation was founded in 1970 but closed down in 1975 to re-open and re-constitute once again in 1996, is alive and well with 131 active members, and a total of 13 units throughout the country, each with its own leadership. The Salesian delegate is Fr Fabiano Hào, based at Cau Bong community in HCM.
A particular feature of the Federation is its strong devotion to Mary Help of Christians (a nice way of turning HCM around!). A statue of Mary Help of Christians from Turin, blessed by the Rector Major, is brought to every family of Federation members. The purpose is to promote devotion to Mary in the family and in the neighbourhood. On the occasion of a visit from the statue hundreds come.  At times there is even a brass band and choir!  The statue remains a month and becomes an occasion for fervent prayer.  In some places, many families which are not alumni ask for the statue to be brought to their home.
The Federation has a Board of Management based in Cau Bong and organises a Grand Meeting Day annually, called Family Day. They encourage monthly activities in local units, usually a monthly recollection. Families are visited if a family member has passed away.  Christmas and Easter become occasions for days of prayer and preparation.
The Vietnam Alumni Federation follows the Regulations of the International Confederation of Past Pupils of Don Bosco.
