Religious Brothers of the Philippines joined by Salesians from
Vietnam and ITM
DAVAO CITY: 6th November 2008 -- Though billed largely as a
national conference of Religious Brothers for the Philippines, the
recent 9th Triennial Convention of Religious Brothers, held from 24-26
October at a Convention Resort in Davao City on the Souther Philippines
island of Mindanao, saw a total of 13 Salesian Brothers in attendance,
several of them from Vietnam, Indonesia and East Timor, and the
remainder from both north and south Philippines provinces. A total of
150 participants from 36 Congregations assembled to ponder the theme of
a spirituality of communion.
Part of the convention was given to business
meetings, since the Philippines National group comprises three separate
Associations. Bro Mon Callo SDB is chairman of the Luzon
Association of Religious Brothers and was thus a key figure in the
organization of the national event which, with the presence of Brothers
also from other parts of Asia, had an international flavour. Convention
Director was Bro. Joe Sapigao SC. The keynote address for the
Conference theme, one heart, one nation, one mission: a spirituality of
communion, was given by Brother Karel San Juan SJ, Executive Director
of Emmaus Centre for Psycho-spiritual Formation at the Ateno de Manila
University.
