A Date with Student-Leaders
MANILA: 20 November 2008 -- The Commission on Youth
Ministry (CYM) together with the Commission for Social Communications
(SoCom) of the Salesian Philippine North Province (FIN) gathered, for
the first time, the student-leaders of different public and private
high schools in the Greater Manila Area for an encounter and a forum on
Servant-Leadership dubbed as "
D8 Tau Liders [read: Date
Tayo
Leaders;
tr. Let's have a date, Leaders.]". The event took place on 14th
November.
The Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC), in Pasay City was
filled
with not less than 180 student-leaders eager to know more about
servant-leadership and ever-willing to share their own genius.
Fr Eligio Cruz, SDB, Provincial Superior - FIN, gave the opening
talk
that challenged the participants to be heroes and saints of today. A
series of talks, discussions and workshops that enabled the
student-leaders to understand better the character of a true
servant-leader run through the whole day. Seasoned and well-respected
Catholic lay-preachers, Mr Arun Gogna and Mr Vic Pestaño, enlightened
the student-leaders about the topic through their well-animated and
substantive talks. The aspirants and prenovices of the Don Bosco
Seminary - Canlubang, Laguna (South of Manila), facilitated the
discussion and workshops of the student-leaders. Meanwhile the lively
young people of Don Bosco Youth Center - Tondo kept the youthful spirit
of the student-leaders through their dance and song animations.
