Vietnamese-American
Youths Medical Mission in Vietnam and WYD with Salesians
(Fr Dominic Tran sdb, writing in E-Service from SUE)
NEW ROCHELLE: 1st August 2008 -- Frs Paul Chuong Nguyen and
Dominic Tran led a group of 12 Vietnamese-American young adults to
Vietnam in late June 2008. They visited a number of rural
villages, and together with local students and medical professionals,
provided free medical examinations and medicines to over 3,000 adults,
and toys and games to their children.
They then continued their pilgrimage to Australia
and participated in the Days in the Diocese in Melbourne as their
preparation for World Youth Day. The Salesian parish of St Margaret
Mary in North Brunswick (where Fr Anthony Quang is parish priest)
hosted the group of by now 41 pilgrims from the USA. One of the
highlights here was the Salesian International Youth Festival with
Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez, Fr Chávez and Bishop Tim Costelloe
sdb, Auxiliary of Melbourne.
Then in Sydney the group, known as Youth 117 (named
after the 117 Vietnamese Martyrs) took part in World Youth Day.
There were now 85 people in the group, including Sr Vuong Do FMA from
San Antonio Province, 5 other Sisters and 7 Priests.
