September 2013 --
China Province has organised a retreat for the Salesian Family
as part
of its activities preparing for the Bicentenary of Don Bosco’s
birth.
With next year's Strenna message already in mind, the retreat
focused
on how we can live Don Bosco's spirituality. Frs Simon Lam and
Andrew
Fung were the Salesians who contributed to the input in a
particular
way.
Fr. Fung shared 10 points on St. Francis de Sales’
spirituality, as a
way of emphasising the importance of living a range of virtues
abd
establishing a close relationship with God.
Fr. Lam spoke of the impotance of giving God priority in our
lives, and
illustrated his ideas by sharing his experience at
Aberdeen Technical
School . 80% of the boarders at this school come from
single-parent
families. Some of them have family problems, emotional
problems,
learning difficulties, etc. After one school year, academic
results,
communication skills and acceptance of religion have greatly
improved
for many of them. One student has begun attending daily Mass
and is now
attending catechism class.
