Dear Confreres and
friends,
As per information from Fr. Savio Silveira, 'today
a batch of sixteen volunteers from the salesian family ( Salesian Sisters,
Salesian Father and Brothers, and lay people) have left for the area near Bachau
and Anjar, 30 km from Bhuj.'
The objective of this team is
two-fold:
1. To network with the Rajkot Diocesan Social
Service Cell and other NGOs for the distribution of the relief goods that have
been coming in abundantly.
2. To assess the situation from the point of view
of the youth and to propose rehabilitation projects for shelter and education
particularly for youth who are orphaned and homeless.
Today too, a truck load of utensils and blankets
have been dispatched. The group that left from Don Bosco Makarpura (Baroda) have
yet to contact us.
Here in Mumbai, Shelter Don Bosco Wadala, and
Balprafulta (Childline-Andheri) have already placed personal at some strategic
railway stations to contact youngsters and render them some
assistance.
We have accepted the request of AGNI (Action for
good governance and networking in India), a civic organization in Mumbai, to
channel some of the relief goods in the areas where we are engaged in relief
services.
Let us continue supporting Gujarat with our
prayers, sacrifices and social service.
Yours sincerely,
Fr. Tony D'Souza sdb
Provincial of
Mumbai
