austraLasia #2741 RM visits FIS Confreres in Cebu
by novice John Quincy Caballo
CEBU: October 20, 2010 -- Far from the stormy weather,
Fr Pascual Chávez, with Frs Adrian Bregolin and Juan Bartolome,
enjoyed a warm sunny day at Don Bosco Formation Centre, Cebu, with the
Salesians of the Philippine South Province (FIS) and members of the
Salesian Family in the area.
It being Recollection day for the FIS Salesians, the
confreres began the day with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The
Rector Major, who had been in Cebu since the night before, arrived at
the Formation Center right on schedule. The Salesians proceeded
immediately to the AV Room at the Seminary where the Rector Major was
to give the talk to the confreres. The talk and the Eucharistic
Celebration that followed were webcast for Salesians who could not be
there.
The input was enriched by the questions from the
Salesians and the insightful responses of the Rector Major. After some
refreshments, the Salesians proceeded to the Chapel where the
celebration of the Eucharist honoring Bl. Michael Rua was held. The
celebration was animated by the candidates with some members of the
Salesian Family. In his homily, the Rector Major encouraged everyone to
become "little Don Boscos" and imitate Don Rua's "dynamic fidelity"
which was always sensitive to the needs of the times. After
Communion, the Salesians were privileged to individually receive a copy
of the new Provincial Directives from the hands of the Rector
Major. During the lunch
which followed the Eucharistic celebration, the guests were treated to
some cultural presentations prepared by the candidates of the Formation
Centre, one of which featured a song especially composed for the Rector
Major's visit entitled, "Live the Dream", accompanied by a short skit.
A surprise number was rendered by the visiting trio themselves,
something which very much delighted the "family" gathered around their
Father.
The meal concluded with an "advanced" goodnight talk
where he praised the genuine sense of Salesian Family spirit which he
felt throughout the celebration. He went on to thank everyone who
prepared for the celebration and did not miss promising everyone
that he will come back again. In the afternoon, the Rector Major, with
his Vicar and his Secretary, met with the Rectors and the Provincial
Council and took supper together before leaving for their return flight
to Manila that evening. _________________ AustraLasia is an
