2710 THA-Cambodia Presentation Sister writes

A 'Pressie' writes to us from Thailand

HAT YAI: 10 September 2010:  A 'Pressie' you say? What's that?  Not what, but who. An 'Aussie' diminutive, which might give you some hint at least why this particular word formation, for 'Presentation Sister' (PBVM) The diminutive has nothing disrespectful about it, indeed it is an affectionate term, and what a surprise to receive, today, a beautiful letter from a Thai Presentation Sister who belongs to the West Australian branch of the Congregation but is working in her native country, at Saenthong Vittay School, Hat Yai.  And of course, she is in 'Salesian' territory in Hat Yai; the school is a Salesian school where she has been invited to work with English education.  But let Sister Petra take over from here:
"Lately, in one of my English classes, I asked the students to write a short composition under the title of "the person whom I admire".  Two of 90 students wrote about St John Bosco. Many of them wrote about their parents, or other well-known figures of the world. When I read those two writings about John Bosco, I felt I would like to share them with you. You might like to put the articles in 'austraLasia'. These students are only 11-12 years old. The majority of our students are Buddhist".
"I am aware that during these days many places in the world are having various activities to welcome st John Bosco's relic. The Salesian community in hat Yai is honoured and lucky to have the opportunity to welcome his relic in this coming November".
"Actually, these two students are Buddhists, and they don't know much about this, yet they have been in the Salesian environment of Saengthong School. I feel very happy to know they are grateful for what John Bosco did for the world. I, as a Presentation Sister, feel that the charism of our foundress, Nano Nagle, is much like that of John Bosco...that is to provide good education to the poor and those who are in need".
"Father, may I take this opportunity to request you send me
austraLasia.......".
Thank you so much, Sr Petra.  In a few hour's time the coordinator of this letter will be addressing new Salesian missionaries to our East Asia-Oceania Region, about the Region, about the mission experiences we have. Your letter, coming as it has precisely at this moment, says so much and even more than this poor person could ever say - as do the two student 'compositions' enclosed with your letter.

Tomorrow austraLasia will publish excerpts from the two compositions.
