Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam 18 November 2019 -- The Salesian Formation House of Theology organized the fourth soccer fest for male religious congregations in Ho Chi Minh city on Saturday morning, 16 November 2019.
There were 17 teams from 17 different religious congregations in Ho Chi Minh city who joined this fest. Some brothers of these congregations are studying theology in our Salesian Theologate. Father Joseph Nguyen Van Am, the Vice Provincial of the Vietnam Province and the Dean of the Theologate reminded the participants of the meaning of the fest and gave some words of encouragement during the opening of the fest at 7:30 a.m.
All the teams played in spirit of joy, friendship and family. The champion of last year was the team of the Dominican brothers. This year the team from the congregation of Our Lady of the poor won and took the championship from the Dominican brothers. The host team, the brothers and priests of SDB won the second place and the team of Franciscan brothers won the third place.
After finishing all the games around 11:30 a.m., the participants gathered in the big hall under the Xuan Hiep parish church. A representative of students of theology studying in our theologate spoke some words of gratitude to the professors on the occasion of the Vietnam teacher’s day. After that the prizes and medals were given to the teams of the third and second places and the trophy and gold medals were given to the new champion team. Every team also received a souvenir flag from the organizers. Then everybody continued to share joy and family spirit during lunch served at the hall.
The soccer fest for male religious congregations has been organized for four years to give chance for male religious from different congregations in Ho Chi Minh city to meet and share with one another the spirit of joy, friendship and family. It was very successful this year with more teams joined and all played and enjoyed the fest. Hopefully next year there will be more congregations join this fest.
