5724(I)_TLS Viceprovince: Annual year end meeting of economers
Dili – Timor Leste, 8 November, 2021 -- The TLS Provincial Economer's Office (Economer Fr. Gui Do Carmo da Silva) organized a two day meeting of the local Economers on 4-5 November in the Dili-Comoro Don Bosco Audiovisual Room. During the two-day meeting the Provincial Economer presented the annual report from overall activities of his office, progress of different projects being done this year and the financial support from different benefactors for the projects in the province. Some 15 economers and lay staff of the provincial economer office took part in the meeting.
Currently the following province level projects are being followed: Project Development Office (PDO), Mission Office, DBTech (Vocation Training Centers development) and Salesian Media Center. Along with the presentations, the Provincial Economer presented the challenges that the Vice-province is facing currently and encouraged each community in the province in order to motivate the progress of the Income Generating Unit. This is to secure the sustainability of each community in the mission entrusted to them in the community.
The provincial Economer for his part continuously encouraged the different communities to support the province through solidarity funds and other needs of the provincial community. With the support from the Salesian headquarters in Rome (The Rector Major and his council), other provinces, national and international agencies, benefactors in Timor Leste and abroad, the Government of Timor Leste and the Bishops Conference of TL (Conferência Episcopal Timorense) - we are able to finalize some projects targeted for this year. After the presentation of the provincial level, there was an opportunity to report by each community economer: their mission, activities, challenges and opportunities. Each economer presented also their short and long term plans.
The meeting took place in a fine family atmosphere with mutual appreciation among the economers on the good job done in the province, with some support to different communities and to the most vulnerable people in the country. Our Salesian mission in Timor Leste is quite large, extends to several thousand beneficiaries. Without the help, support, solidarity and coordination we are not able to fulfill the mission entrusted to us in each community and at each province level project.
