DBTI celebrates 16th Graduation Rites

Port Moresby, PNG, 23 November 2017 -- Two hundred fifty-nine (259) students successfully completed their Bachelor and Diploma programs at Don Bosco Technological Institute, Boroko on November 23, 2017. The theme was: ‘In unity we empower and transform society through Bosconian values’. Witnessing this momentous event were Cardinal John Ribat, MSC, DD, Archbishop of Port Moresby; Fr. Alfred Maravilla, SDB, Provincial Superior of PGS Vice-Province; Fr. Clifford Morais, SDB, Acting Rector; Fr. Ariel Macatangay, SDB, Savio Haus Aspirantate, Bomana; Fr. Eduardo Revilla, SDB, Vice-Rector of the MHC Shrine; Dr. Catherine Nongkas, DBTI Principal; Mr. Vincent Malaibe, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Papua New Guinea; Mr. Samson Wangihomie, Teaching Service Commissioner; Representatives from Divine Word University, media outlets, educational sectors, benefactors, DBTI staff, families and friends of the graduating students and other invited guests.
In his welcome address, Fr. Maravilla, said, “DBTI collaborates with the Archdiocese of Port Moresby in forming young people with ‘Competence and Character’. This apostolate is for all young people, regardless of creed, color or background.” He stressed the Catholic character of DBTI and added that more international Salesian missionaries will come to educate the young people of Papua New Guinea.
Mr. Malaibe, the Keynote Speaker said “DBTI instills in you the values, knowledge and skills. Embrace them and use them wisely and productively.” He commended the efforts and sacrifices made by parents, guardians and benefactors in supporting the education of their children at DBTI.
Mr. Wangihomie accepted the sixty-one (61) Bachelor students in the Teaching Service. Mrs. Dianne Lavi, Students’ Activities Coordinator and President of Past Pupils Association enthusiastically welcomed the 259 Bachelor and Diploma graduates into the association.
Fr. Morais, SDB congratulated the graduates and thanked everyone present for the well-organized celebration. “Thank you for the memories and experiences you have left at DBTI. Uphold the Bosconian values as you journey in life to achieve success.” said the DBTI Acting Rector.
A day before the 16th Graduation Rites, Fr. Ben Fleming, MSC, Vicar-General of the Archdiocese of Port Moresby celebrated the Baccalaureate Mass together with four concelebrating priests. Fr. Fleming blessed the students and their graduation gowns, parents, DBTI staff and other guests. “Remain in God’s love and always be grateful to others for their support and assistance,” he said.
