5381(II)_One Year of Laudato Si' (May 24, 2020 - May 24, 2021)
Don Bosco Green Alliance at the heart of LAUDATO SI YEAR
May 20, 2020
World, 20 May 2020 -- One year after the publication of Laudato Si' (2015), at the end of 2016 the Vatican Dicastery For Promoting Integral Human Development was established. Five years after the Laudato Si' Encyclical, this Dicastery declared a 'Special Anniversary Year' (May 24, 2020 - May 24, 2021) to promote integral activity along the lines of Laudato Si'.
In the 7 page publication for the Laudato Si' Week (May 16-24, 2020) the Dicastery For Promoting Integral Human Development made public the Laudato Si Year events and action:
* Laudato Si' Week - Global celebrations (May 16-24, 2020) * Common Prayer for Earth and Humanity (May 24, 2020) * Operational Guidelines for Laudato Si' 'inter-dicasterial' (June 2020) * Webinar on Assesment and Way Forward for Laudato Si' (June 18, 2020) * Season for Creation (September 1 - October 4, 2020) * Reinventing the Global Education Alliance (October 15, 2020) * Economy of Francesco - Meeting (November 2020) * World Economic Forum in Davos with Vatican Round-table (January 26-29, 2021) * Laudato Si Conference with launching of Action Platform for 7 years journey (June 2021)
On a long-term basis the Dicastery is also proposing 'LAUDATO SI' ACTION PLATFORM' (a 7 year journey) with launching the main public action platforms during this special year towards integral ecology: Laudato Si Families; Laudato Si' Dioceses; Laudato Si' Schools (coordinated by Don Bosco Green Alliance); Laudato Si' Universities; Laudato Si' Hospitals and health care centers; Laudato Si' Businesses and Agricultural farms; Laudato Si'religious orders embarking on integral ecology path.
The Dicastery also provides measurable concrete "Laudato Si' Goals" for the ecology in the spirit of Laudato Si': * Response to the CRY OF THE EARTH (greater use of clean renewable energy) * Response to the CRY OF THE POOR (defence of human life from conception to death) * Ecological ECONOMICS (sustainable production, fair-trade, ethical consumption) * Adoption of SIMPLE LIFESTYLES (sobriety in the use of resources and energy) * Ecological EDUCATION (rethink and re-design education curriculum) * Ecological SPIRITUALITY (recover religious vision of Creation) * Emphasis on COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT and PARTICIPATION (in the concrete action)
We are glad to know, that we are among the active members of this special Year:
The Don Bosco Green Alliance has been invited to lead the sector on Laudato Si' Schools, which will be a seven-year journey of educating young people towards integral ecology. This will involve promoting a re-think and re-design of educational curricula and educational institution reform in the spirit of integral ecology to create ecological awareness and action, promoting the ecological vocation of young people, teachers and leaders of education.
And the Dicastery Coordinator for Ecology is a Salesian, Fr Joshtrom Kureethadam from India.
