austraLasia #2641 Korea Province - "What matters were you discussing as you walk
along?"
SEOUL: 12 May 2010 -- The first weeks of May have seen two
gatherings of younger confreres, practical trainees and priests in
their quinquennium, belonging to the KOR province.
From 30 April to 2 May 11 young confreres in
practical training - only those working outside the country were absent
- came together for the half-yearly meeting of practical trainess at
Naeri, where the summer camp is located.
They took part in one day of reflection and one day
of meetings, led by the Provincial, Fr Stephen Nam, though the
coordinator for the event was Fr Stephen Yang, the province formation
delegate. The moments of reflection focused on the person as a
contemplative in action. There was also a conference on Salesian
prayer. During the second day of meeting and discussion the young
confreres had an opportunity to discuss both Salesian and community
life, looking at the degree of care exercised on their behalf by the
community, and noting the difficulties, limitations but also the joys
the experienced as Salesian assistants to young people. The event
concluded with an outing with the provincial to a nearby national park.
The second meeting was held instead at the
Provincial House in Seoul, and involved 9 young Salesian priests. Three
were unable to attend because they are working or studying outside the
province at the moment. They took a line from Luke's Gospel as their
general theme for the occasion: "What matters are you discussing as
you walk along?" (Lk 24:17). Their programme involved a celebration
of the Eucharist with the Provincial, and a conference based on the
province handbook for discernment of poverty, given by the Provincial
Economer. They also had an opportunity to share aspects of their
spiritual life, and to relax together.
The average age of this second group is 39 years of
age, slightly below that of the Province overall. _________________ AustraLasia is an
