The Volunteers of Don Bosco make
history!
On Monday January 18 at 6.00 am
(AEDST) a small group of Volunteers of Don Bosco (VDB) held their first
International meeting in - Cyber-space!
Five Volunteers from four countries
including, Belgium, Italy, Puerto Rico and Australia, met via their computers to
exchange news, views and generally enjoy each other's company via a live
computer chat program. Crossing cultural and language barriers the five
Volunteers successfully carried out what is planned to become a monthly
event.
The Volunteers hope to expand the
use of this medium to hold more formal sessions and to increase the solidarity
of their members all over the world. At present Volunteers from 10 countries
share ideas, views and regular news items via the electronic mail
system.
These occasions serve to bond the
members more closely together and to provide opportunities of cultural exchanges
that would otherwise be impossible.
A greater number of the Institute's
members are expected to participate in the next session, increasing both the
benefits and the joy of such meetings.
