KARNATAKA YOUTH MINISTRY TRAINS ANIMATORS

BANGALORE: 21st July --About 75 new animators for Karnataka were trained
in the month of June in three phases. Out of the 75, about 50 were lay
animators. "This isone reason why Youth Ministry in Karnataka is always
on the upswing", noted Fr Dominic Sequeira sdb,
Regional Youth Director.
In the first phase 25 animators were trained at St.Anthony's Centre,
Bellary for two days on June 20 and 21. The programme was organised by
Fr.C.P.Varghese SDB, the Youth Director of Bellary diocese. The resource
person was Fr. Dominic Sequeira. The participants were given skills and
input on Youth Ministry. Fr.Dominc also spoke at length on the YCS/YSM
and its effect on the students. Mr.Syed Akram a YSM animator for about
18 years in Karnataka conducted a YSM cell meeting with the help of
students from St. Philomena's High School, Bellary. Mr.Ivan D'Costa,
Regional Youth Co-ordinator of Karnataka helped in the programme.
In the second phase, animators were trained for the YSM in schools in
Mangalore from June 26 to 27 June. The resource persons for the
programme were Fr.Mark D'Silva, Mr.Syed Akram, Mr.Francis D'Cunha and
Fr.Dominic Sequeira. The entire programme in Mangalore was organised by
Fr.Charles Menezes, the diocesan YCS/YSM Chaplain in Mangalore diocese.
The participants were given the history, Orientation, student reality,
nature, aim and the methodology of the Young Students Movement (YSM).
The third phase of youth animators training programme followed soon
after the second at the same venue. About 25 animators were trained to
look after the young Christian students (YCS) in
the parishes.
