Salesian Provincial Day for ITM in Jakarta
JAKARTA: 30th June, 2007 -- On Saturday 30th June,
Tigaraksa witnessed for the first time in Indonesia, a gathering of
Salesians from the 4 communities of Indonesia. Previously the
Provincial Day was celebrated only in East Timor, annually. But now,
due to the increasing number of Salesians and the increasing distance
among houses throughout ITM, a Provincial Day is celebrated in both
countries. Present were 10 priests, 3 perpetually professed Brothers, 2
deacons and 27 young clerics and Brothers. The 12 aspirants and
pre-novices helped prepare the places for the Mass, conference,
luncheon and games.
It was only fitting that Fr. Andres Calleja, ITM
Superior, dwelt on UNITY as the theme of the Mass and Conference,
because the two countries form one circumscription. The confreres
prayed for a peaceful election in East Timor and remembered the two
Salesian Brothers in East Timor who are poor in health. In his homily,
Fr. Andres reminded all the Salesians to keep united also in the
charism of Don Bosco, working for poor boys in the style of the
preventive system.
It is interesting to note that in the Indonesian
sector of ITM, the four communities are mostly formation houses: the
post-novitiate house in Sunter, the novitiate house in Sumba and the
pre-novitiate house of Tigaraksa. Only the Parish of St John Bosco in
Sunter is not a formation house.
