DB Kumgi celebrates Solemnity of Sacred Heart by
donating blood
KUMGI (PNG): 21st June 2007 -- After eleven years as a technical
school, Don Bosco Kumgi this year added the novitiate for the Salesians
in Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands to its mission. And as is
traditional for many Salesian novitiates, they are named after the
Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Each year the spirit of love and sharing generated
by the Solemnity
was marked in practical terms by blood donations. Staff from the
Kundiawa hospital visit the school. This year 25 students offered their
blood.
In the evening, at the vigil of the feast, staff,
hostel boys and
girls gathered in the Savina Hall (named after Fr Savina, Salesian
pioneer missionary in PNG) for a religious program in honour of the
Sacred Heart. The prayerful part of the event was coordinated by
Novice Augustine Bitu. Other items were prepared by
students.
On the day of the Solemnity the school community
celebrated with a
whole school Mass and recognition of contributions of different
individuals and groups in the school community. The novice
master
also used the occasion to gather vocation candidates - some thirty of
them - for a bible sharing.
