Simple but hopeful commemoration
PHNOM PENH: 27th May 2007 -- While Don Bosco Cambodia commemorated its 16th year
of foundation on May 24th 2007 with various activities, the local community of
Phnom Penh organised a simple but hopeful programme, the acceptance of five
pre-aspirant candidates called the 'Besucco Boys'. This is inspired by
the desire to become missionaries of the Word in the style of Francis Besucco's
'Industriousness-piety-cheerfulness'. Two practical promises were made: to
actively live the life of being 'Junior legionaries of Mary' and to become
faithful Knights of the Altar. The solemn mass and procession was
presided over by the Bishop of Phnom Penh, Emile Destombes MEP, with the
participation of around 800 Catholics.
This would be an ideal opportunity to read, for many for the
first time because it has not been readily available in English, Don Bosco's
Life of Francis Besucco. And the very best way now to do this is to go to
http://sdl.sdb.org, select the English tab, then search not on 'all' but 'Don
Bosco' and the word 'Besucco'. That will bring up the 'book' in its
chapters for easy reading.
