Japanese 'Shining Star' student to head to
International Physics Olympiad in Iran
OSAKA: 3rd May 2007 -- Nishiguchi Daiki, from the Salesian Seiko Gakuin
(Stella Lucens or 'Shinig Star') School, has been chosen as one of 5 very
bright Japanese students to compete in the International Physics Olympiad
(IPhO) to be held from 13-22 July at Isfahan, Iran. Nishiguchi, from
Third Form at the school, performed brilliantly in the preliminary tests which
many students around Japan sat for. The elimination rounds selected 17,
then 10 and finally the 5 finalists.
Nishiguchi, whose school is already renowned in Osaka and
indeed throughout Japan for its academic results, will now be coached
personally by a professor from the University of Osaka, in preparation for the
Iran Olympiad. The school's headmaster, Fr John Bosco Namiki, is not shy
about his satisfaction at the news. "These are the kinds of results we can
produce at Don Bosco schools" he says, "where the same possibilities
are open to all". He added that he hoped this Olympiad involving so
many young students from around the world would be a contribution to peace
given the international situation surrounding and involving Iran at the moment.
