THIRD PRIEST IN 41 YEARS
Joseph Lee sdb
PORT PIRIE (Aus): 23rd June-- The 1984 school captain of St. Mark's
College was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Port Pirie, only the
third old scholar to reach priesthood in the 41 years of that Salesian
work.
The newly ordained priest, Brian Mathews of Crystal Brook, was ordained
in a full St. Mark's Cathedral by Metropolitan Archbishop Len Faulkner
of Adelaide. Nearly all the priests of the Port Pirie Diocese and
priests from the Adelaide Archdiocese were present, joining with Brian's
family, relations, friends and parishioners from the parishes of his
pastoral placements.
Fr. Mathews celebrated his Mass of Thanksgiving at Holy Trinity Church
Crystal Brook on Sunday 21 June, his home parish. The Salesians
present were Fathers Lawrie Moate, Ray Cau, Michael
Aulsebrook and Joseph Lee, plus Brothers Reg Newport
and John Larkins.
The other old boy priests are Fr Ian Murdoch SDB and Fr. Brian Ferme.
