Stories of hope from
Pakistan....
LAHORE: 1st June 2009 -- "It is good news that the Army has
pushed the
insurgents back into the mountains (at some point this year we saw them
mushrooming everywhere around the country) but it is not the only good
news we can share these days with austraLasia readers.
In the month of May just ended, we saw the largest
ever group of
Graduates from the Don Bosco Technical Centre in Lahore receive their
diplomas. And what's even better, all of them got jobs to start helping
their families, some even in prestigious Companies and Colleges, as
part of the maintenance teams. This has been an impressive
achievement
involving our staff, given the tensions we have gone through in the
School year now finished.
But the stories of hope do not end there. A few days
ago the
Chairman of the National Electricity Company (WAPDA) visited our
facilities, and a solid cooperation between the Centre and the
Government will be reflected in the contract already under study:
transformers for rewinding by our Electrical facility; jobs for the
graduates; funding for Training under the title of the WAPDA
Foundation. The Pakistan Government appreciates the efforts of
Don
Bosco with needy youth and is willing to stand by the Salesians in this
mission. This is one clear reason why the outcome of the
Government
yearly inspection last week could not have been more positive: the
Centre's affiliation to the Punjab Board of Technical education and the
Technical education and Vocational Training Authority has been extended
for two years. Impressed by the work done to date, they considered that
an inspection will not be necessary next year and instead suggested
application for permanent registration by 2011. Thumbs up to Frs Jude
and Monix who have worked hard to accomplish this.
Life goes on....Pakistan offers the Congregation a
beautiful
missionary enterprise and we are not alone. Many people there,
both
Christian and Muslim have decided to make Don Bosco an example of work
for poor youth in the country. When next time you hear of
terrorist
attacks in Pakistan, or even in the city where Don Bosco is located,
join us in in praying for the millions of wonderful Pakistani people
who pray for peace every day".
