Some resources to
accompany Don Bosco!
ROME: 12th May 2009 -- Now that the Casket containing Don
Bosco's mortal remains (part thereof - especially one hand and forearm)
has begun its lengthy three year journey through the Salesian world,
people will be looking for various accompanying material, either just
out of curiosity, or perhaps to prepare for the arrival of the Casket
in one place or another. The 'pilgrimage' itself one can follow
easily enough on ANS, since the Casket's reception will take on
particularly local colour wherever it is being received.
Here we are drawing your attention to some material
that you may find interesting and useful. You have already seen a
brilliant and attractive 'Flash' image of the Casket on the Home Page
of www.sdb.org . Want more of that and in the highest imaginable
resolution? Bro Hilario Seo KOR but currently webmaster for
sdb.org and photographer extraordinaire has taken these shots and they
are quite spectacular. On SDL in the 'Don Bosco' collection simply look
for '150 anniversario' (you'll find it under titles at the top of the
list, or search '150' using Titles as your search section) and there
you will find 11 high resolution pics
of the Casket when it arrived recently at Cinecittà in
Rome. Along with these are some 30 other shots of 'faces' for want of a
better word, Bronze relief depictions either end of the Casket
representing the faces of young people from every nation.
Another item of interest, this time to be found in
the 'Resources' collection on SDL, is 'Don
Bosco the Puppeteer'. This is a presentation (ppt) focused on
a recently produced artistic representation of Don Bosco as a
puppeteer! The presentation explains various aspects of this. We thank
Fr Laurence Essery, attached to IRL but working in Tunisia, for his
translation of this. The same item is on SDL in Spanish and Italian
also. Your easiest way to pick this up is to go to the 'resources'
collection then 'Subjects' and 'Don Bosco'.
Finally, don't overlook the Ongoing
Formation Bulletin produced from Don Bosco Hall in Berkeley. This
is a relatively new item, and the May edition has just been placed on
SDL again in the 'resources' collection. Again go 'Subjects' but then
'Ongoing Formation'.
And finally, while we are at it, though none of
these are specifically on Don Bosco, we have just added two further
items to the English collection under 'Subject', 'Missions', the latest
Cagliero11 newsletter (May) and an interesting position paper by Bro
Jean Paul Muller from Bonn on 'Microfinancing
projects serving youth'.
------
Bear in mind that over these days (in fact May-June) there are a number
of ordinations of confreres belonging to the Region. Martino Nguyen Dai
Loc was ordained priest by Bishop Carlo Chenis sdb at Alassio on 8th
May.
