Cambodia: Year-end Drama at Don Bosco Phnom Penh
Draws more than 3,500
PHNOM
PENH, 31 December 2004
-- In a truly Salesian style of
mobilizing children and young people, the Salesian Youth Movement of Don
Bosco Phnom Penh presented a yearender drama “The Greatest Story Ever Told", the
Birth of the Savior, that drew more than 3,500 people mostly non-Christians.
In
beautiful, creative dramatic actions, movements and dances the cast of eighty
children and youth of whom only four
are Catholic depicted the nativity scenes easily understood by local
viewers. The message was clear: we
celebrate the Son of God, the Savior. He comes to liberate us from the human
predicament, our sinfulness. He declares to us the Good News that we are loved
by God. “He gave power to become children of God” (Jn. 1:12).
This is even more than a Good News
for the children and youth of Don
Bosco Technical School in Phnom
Penh. This is news that is empowering. It empowers them to dramatize the Christmas scenes for the first time in
twelve years for the public audience. It empowers them by changing their former
disposition of insecurity, fear and lack of courage into that blessed assurance,
new hope and enthusiasm in the New Evangelisation. Hopefully, this will be the new beginning for the long journey of
proclaiming the Good News ahead, a happy 2005
indeed!
