SAFETY BEACH: 18th November - Sun, surf 'n sand. That's summer
in the Land of the Sunburnt Soul otherwise known as Australia. The
Salesians (SDB, FMA, Cooperators, the Salesian Lay Community) are gearing
up for the summer bout of camp fever. Safety Beach (Dromana, near
Melbourne) is the scene for two camps, one for boys only, the other
a mixed camp.
This second camp is aimed especially at family groups of children,
though 'single' boys and girls are just as welcome. There is a strong
leadership tradition existing for these camps amongst erstwhile campers
who are now able to give back what they themselves have experienced. Elsewhere
in Australia camps will be taking place also - near Warrnambool in Western
Victoria (run by Cooperators), and in Adelaide, at Warooka. The largest
of all camps now is being run in Westerrn Australia south of Perth.
This camp is largely in the hands of young lay leaders who call themselves
'OWLS': older, wiser leaders!
