SAL Superior General heads up Major Superiors
(Women), Hong Kong
HONG KONG: 10 November 2011 -- Sr. Mabel Chan,
General Superior of the Sisters Announcers of the Lord (SAL)
was elected new President of the Association of Major
Superiors of the Women's Institutes of Hong Kong, during the
last annual Assembly held in the presence of Mgr. Pierre Lam
Minh, MEP, General Vicar of the diocese. According to
reports from the Kong Ko Bao (Chinese version of the
diocesan bulletin), the assembly also elected two
vice-presidents, the treasurer and secretary, who will work
with Sister Chan at the helm of the Association in the
2011-2013 period. During the annual Assembly, Mons.Lam
encouraged and invited the Sisters of Hong Kong to play an
active role in the life of the Church.
The Sisters Announcers of the Lord,
members of the Salesian Family since 2005, were founded in
continental China in 1931 (though the date 1936 is also
indicated in their literature) and in Hong Kong in 1953.
They were founded by Bishop Ignatius Canazei and take St
Louis Versiglia also as their inspiration.
The Association of Major Superiors of
Women's Institutes in Hong Kong is part of the Major
Superiors Union of Women's Institutes, established by the
Holy See in 1972. In Hong Kong all the institutes Major
Superiors in the area belong to the Association, except the
congregations of contemplative life. The purpose of the
Association is to strengthen the cooperation among the
religious women, to promote the integral development of the
individual institutions so that they can carry out a greater
role according to its charisma, under the guidance of the
Holy See and the Diocese as far as their Apostolate is
concerned.
