45th Foundation Day celebrations for Don Bosco College Canlubang: ad maoiora natus

CANLUBANG: 6th February 2008 --
Don Bosco Seminary College (DBSC, DBC's former name) Canlubang, south of Manila, founded in 1963, was intended to answer the need for qualified religious personnel in the different Salesian Institutions in the then single Philippine Province. In 1967, DBC received Government recognition for its Education Courses, a Bachelor of Secondary Education, and Bachelor of Science in Technical Education. In answer to the growing needs of qualified industrial workers, it opened a technical training centre in 1972. This program caters to poor youth of the locality. In 1991, DBSC was further recognized by the Government for its Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. Thirty years after its establishment, in 1994, it opened its doors to non-seminarian students. In 1998, the institution was christened Don Bosco College. In the same year, the high school department was born. In 2003, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) recognized the 2-year technician program of the college. It expanded from a seminary to a complex institution answering the needs of the locality and its young.
With  all that history in mind, DBC took an entire week for its 45th Foundation Day celebrations, from 27 January to 3 February. The entire Educative and Pastoral Community, comprising Salesians, aspirants and prenovices, students and lay mission partners set out on a path that will bring them to the Golden Jubilee in 2013.  For the most immediate celebration they divided into 45 groups representing some of the countries where Salesians can be found around the world.
One feature of the celebrations was a drama based on the 'Bury Me Deep' story of Blessed Ceferino Namancurá. The drama, from the story originally written by Peter Lappin sdb, was adapted for stage by Fr Joel Camaya sdb. Cast and crew came mostly from the high school students and other EPC members. It ran the full eight days. The week held many other features: a Mass in honour of St John Bosco, a fireworks display, an Agape, a gathering of Alumni, bands and many bonding activities.
One item that all readers of austraLasia could take a look at is a well-constructed video made available on YouTube, and this time no need to worry about the 'associated videos' YouTube always ties to these - the Filipino Salesian technological interest amongst students and others ensures that the scene is well and truly swamped with their videos!  Enjoy!
