4715(II)_"Go out to preach that good news to other nations"
DB Quetta in Pakistan celebrates St Mark
May 3, 2018
Quetta, Pakistan, 25 April 2018 -- The Don Bosco Learning Center, Quetta ended their second month of academic activity by invoking St. Mark, the Evangelist. The last Friday of every month is dedicated to bring the Christians (both Catholics and non-Catholics) together as one Don Bosco family to thank God for the graces received in the past month and to entrust the coming days to God through the intersession of the saint of the month.
St. Mark’s feast was celebrated with a solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided by Fr. Sami, SDB, the Spiritual Moderator of the institute. Fr. Joel Jurao (rector) and Fr. Eugenio Maglasang (the delegate of the FIS Provincial) concelebrated, as students and personnel prayed for the peace in the country and safety of the Christian communities. The teachers and students of the pre-junior section prepared the altar and the gifts while the junior section served as the readers and choir in the Eucharistic celebration in the church of Mary, Help of Christians.
Fr. Sami emphasized in his homily the demand of faith and the need of perseverance during these troubled times as St. Mark did. The situation that engulfs the christian faithful of Pakistan today is not very much different from the time of St. Mark. Jesus was misunderstood and his followers were persecuted due to their adherence to the Way. This is still happening in many parts of the world today.
St. Mark teaches us to take pride in the gift of faith and the Gospel. Then like him we ‘go out to preach that good news to other nations’ not only through professing it but most especially by being and acting as true disciples of Jesus; not deterring from the Truth, who sets us free.
