Growing Like Pinardi Shed - Can Gio
July 23, 2017
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, 22 July 2017 -- The Salesian can't survive without the poor young people. Already the first Salesian work in Hanoi (1952) was an Orphanage of St. Theresa, the first Valdocco of Vietnam. During last two years the Salesian province of Vietnam is trying to diversify the prevalent parish ministry. The Can Gio, with the first Salesian Fr. Joseph Hing since 1987 is located within the archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City, canonical community was established ten years ago and now there is a full pledged Salesian community with six Salesians. Until last 2015 there was only a humble missionary parish. The first youngsters in need - orphans, ethnic minority youth at risk and kids from broken families arrived in 2016.
The large property located close to the parish offers ample opportunity to develop a suitable education institution for our boys (high school age) who attend the nearby public school.
Fr. Dang is sharing: " Starting this summer, in our community, there are 14 'old' boys (first group arrived in 2016) and 16 'new' boys who arrived just recently. Almost of them are happy and like to live with our life. This year, there are more ethnic minority. They are very lovely, but ashamed. We encourage them to speak their mother tongue - ethnic langauge, but also try to help them to speak Vietnamese during ordinary community time. Thanks to God, our family is growing!
