5596(I)_Global prayer solidarity of SYM with Myanmar people
World (ZMB Vice-province), 11 April 2021 -- Following the invitation of the SDB General Councillor for Youth Ministry, Fr Miguel Angel Garcia, the ZMB Vice-province Salesian Youth around the 4 countries of the Vice-province in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Malawi took part in the prayer moment on 11 April at 3 PM (Myanmar time).
The well-prepared prayer moment was followed by all SDB communities with their young people: after a moment of prayer or even adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, the young people in Nkhotakota, Malawi Oratory, Street children in Makululu-Kabwe, Zambia and the Aspirants in Chingola with the Oratorians or the Postnovices in Lusaka-Makeni - all expressed their solidarity at the end of the prayer with their signature and AMEN on the 'Prayer for Myanmar' made available in all communities.
Although Myanmar is not a well-known country for this part of the world, the SYM young people were informed about the courageous resistance of the young people in Myanmar, faced with the ruthless military after the coup on 1 February 2021. After 70 days victims killed in the streets number more than 700 and almost 3000 innocent people are being held in prisons, including the leaders of the Nation.
One of the Salesian Family members of Myanmar shares his thoughts: "We are still in suffering Lent, the whole countrywide, before the Easter of the Nation. Hope patience will pay back the sacrifice we make daily through many lives, Human Holocausts for freedom and justice. Our patience is running thin, but what can we do? We take courage from the Prayer Campaign organized by the Salesian Youth Movement worldwide after the initial lead within the EAO region. In Don Bosco we are very grateful!"
