THA: New Provincial assumes post with Profession of Faith
officially assumed the post of Provincial for Thailand and Cambodia on 7th
January 2005 amongst the hundreds of Salesian Family members who came to witness
the occasion.
Bishop Joseph Prathan Sridarunsil, Bishop
of Surathani, Thailand, officiated at the ceremony, the Mass and installation of
the new Provincial at the Provincial House Bangkok. In his homily, Bishop
Prathan thanked the new Provincial for his availability and readiness to lead
the animation and government of the province for the next six years in a spirit
of filial trust in God's will.
When asked about his priorities and main
thrusts ahead, Fr Theparat (there are two possible spellings - at least - in
English) urged the confreres and all Salesian Family members to renew the
primacy of the spiritual life, preserve unity and communion, reaffirm the
Salesian commitment to its mission and re-establish a preference for poor and
abandoned young people, in order to overcome the grief, hopelessness and
destruction wrought by the Tsunami calamity. His slogan is "leadership by
example of service".
The aspirants expect that due to his
experience in leadership and youth ministry the new Provincial will bring
enthusiasm for youth ministry.
At the end of the ceremony, the
congratulatory garland of flowers spoke of a Marian message for the new
Provincial: 'Thy will be done".
