Hong Kong, June 26 - This year, the Salesian Youth Day for the Elementary kids was held at Salesian school. The theme was "Joyful Holiness". Through activities, the participants understood that joy is exactly one of the basic elements of holiness. This joy referred to the internal peace, which is because of their faith in God and avoiding sin. When they knew the path to holiness, they had the responsibility to lead their friends to holiness as well. So that they would spread the good news of the kingdom and lead others to holiness joyfully. Don Bosco always reminds the young, "Run, jump, shout. But do not sin". On that day at 9 in the morning, 170 students gathered in the stadium and were ready to participate in the activities. The whole event started with a series of action songs and warm-up activities, causing the atmosphere of the stadium to become enthusiastic.
After the warm-up activities, the students received a "task manual". They had to use it and finish the suggested tasks. For each completed task, they would get an angel card. However, during the course of their tasks, the “devil” would tempt them. If they were tempted to go with an easier task, they would get a devil card instead. The students needed to accumulate 20 angel cards to became a saint, but they should not have any devil card on hand.
The peak of the Salesian Youth Day was the thanksgiving mass. Newly ordained Salesian priest Fr. Carlos Cheung celebrated the mass, co-celebrated by Fr Lanfranco Fedrigotti, Provincial of China Province, Fr. Andrew Fung, Vice-Provincial of China Province and Fr. Martin Yip, delegate of Salesian Youth Ministry. During his sermon, Fr. Carlos invited the participants to intimate the example of St. Dominic Savio and Laura Vicuna to be friend with Jesus. They should try their best to escape from the temptation of devil. Only when they didn’t commit any sin or asked forgiveness in Confession, they could be truly happy and heading towards holiness.
Finally, with the companion of Our Mother Mary and the guidance of Holy Spirit, the Salesian Youth Day for primary students ended in a cheerful atmosphere. Everyone left with joy and smiles on their faces.
