November 25, 2020
Anisakan, Myanmar 25 November 2020 -- On 24 November at the MYM Provincial House in Anisakan, four Salesians: Abele Nee Reh, Joseph La Bang La Htoi, Paul Peter Sai Kaung Si and Peter Myo San Aung were ordained as Deacons by Archbishop Marco Tin Wiin of Mandalay Archdioese.
The Eucharistic celebration was concelebrated by Fr. Charles Saw Thi Han Lwin and 11 Salesians from the communities of Anisakan, Mandalay and Pyin Oo Lwin.
The celebration was done in accordance with the guidelines for Covid19 prevention and control laid down by the government. Hence, there were just a few participants made up of boys from Nazareth Community and the Salesian Sisters.
These newly ordained Deacons did their Theological Formation at Don Bosco Center of Studies in Paranaque-Manila. With them the Vice Province of Myanmar now has 7 Deacons who are on their way to priestly ordination. Two of them, Dominic Aung Ko Myint and Michael Em Lam Pau, are still in Cliffton Hill, Melbourne, completing their studies, while Clement Yan Naing Tun is back in Myanmar after his studies in Ratisbonne, Jerusalem.
The Vice Province of Myanmar is growing in number of Confreres in a very timely way. It is very timely because the democratic reform of the country is taking deeper root with the victory of the present government led by Aung San Suu Kyi in the 2020 General Elections. The Government has begun so many reforms, especially in the field of education and development of the young generation.
The Salesians definitely have a lot of responsibilities and opportunities to contribute to nation building, above all in the field of education and employment opportunities for young people.
