Update on 150th prep. on SDL
ROME: 17th January 2009 -- It is evident that people around the
globe are preparing in many ways for the 150th of the Congregation, so
even though we offered a list of updates on SDL only a fortnight ago,
the requests for additional material were so substantial that we need
to give you another list. And of course, in the spirit of 'always
at your service', if there is something not there that you need, just
call. About the only thing we cannot guarantee is Bartholomew
Garelli's birth certificate!
* VIS Congress on Preventive System and Human
Rights: material in English, Italian, Spanish, and now Portuguese
collections.
* The Minutes of the Foundation of the Salesian
Congregation in critical edition in English, Italian, Spanish, French
and Portuguese collections
* Letters (of DB) showing first ever use of the Seal
showing St Francis of Sales, and the Coat of Arms in Don Bosco
Scritti e risorse collection.
* Certificate of birth and baptism of DB in Don
Bosco Scritti e risorse collection
* Vocation Week material in view of 150th - all in
Italian and prepared by ILE province, but, if you understand the lingo,
very useful (Italian collection).
* DOMISAL 2004 in en, it, fr, es, pt collections -
of historical interest.
* Salesian Family Groups - in English at the moment.
A brief rundown on all 23 member groups. Could be useful to accompany
the upcoming Salesian Family Spirituality Days 22-25 January.
* Salesian 'identity card' and Common Mission
statement in German - it's a single file in the German (Deutsch)
collection, obviously.
* Historical personages and early Salesian period -
jpgs for the most part out of the Central Archives. Valuable material -
you simply will not have had access to some of these before. In
the highest resolution desirable for exhibition purposes, all in the
Don Bosco scritti..... collection. These include:
- Borel, Lemoyne, Ceria, Barberis, Barolo, Albera,
Czartoryski, Cagliero, Rua, first group photos of Salesians
- both the beatification and canonisation of Don
Bosco
----------
Now here's something of interest to you. SDL url's, that is, the
web address to a particular location, are very, very long. For
instance, to quote you the URL for the images above in the Don
Bosco scritti... collection I would have to give you the following:
http://sdl.sdb.org/gsdl/cgi-bin/library?e=p-01000-00---off-0dbscritt-italian%2cfrench%2cportugues%2cespanol%2cenglish%2cdbscritt-01-1--0-10-0---0---0prompt-10---4-------0-1l--11-en-50---20-about---00-3-1-00-0-0-11-1-0utfZz-8-00&a=d&cl=CL2
Now that's really something! Instead, there is now a new
free/gratis/libre possibility that you may want to use for other things
yourself. It's called TinyURL and instead of the above it
produces (long term - remains valid over time):
http://tiny.cc/Lhh0G. Now isn't that just so much easier? If you
want to try this idea for your own use go to http://www.tiny.cc/
