That week of Salesian
celebrations
The reports of different ways of celebrating events over the period
24th January to 1st February are still coming in. We'll round
these off today with a few brief mentions...
INDIA: 24-31 January 2009 -- The Don Bosco India site has been
very hard to access for a number of weeks due to severed cables
somewhere in the Middle East, so news is skimpy, but we are aware of a
major cricket tournament held at Don Bosco Gauwhati on 26th January
(celebration of Republic Day) but with ecumenical intent - and in fact
the tournament was won by the Baptists. Further south in Chennai,
however, the All India Football Tournament - the Don Bosco McFerran
Trophy opened on 24th January and will hold its finals on 4th February.
The Rector major will be present for the finals.
And we have heard there were big celebrations also in Mumbai where Don
Bosco is a very popular Saint. But the site failed each time we tried
to collect more information on this one. Sorry.
MANILA: 1st February 2009 -- At Seminaryo ng Don Bosco 1st
February saw the celebration of Family and Benefactors Day. The Rector,
Fr Jose (Pepe) Reinoso was the main celebrant at the 11.00 morning
mass. Don Bosco's relics were venerated by the large number in
attendance, some 150 of whom were guests for the day. The afternoon saw
a variety program which included the presentation of the Strenna for
2009, then cultural presentations by the various groups at the
Seminaryo: Vietnam, ITM, Korea, Sri Lanka. Boys from Tondo's
Manpower Skill and Training Centre also performed. The final number for
the day was a 'Padre e Maestro' Filipino version (could that perhaps be
sent along for inclusion in SDL please?)
ROME: 2nd February 2009 -- The RMG community 'rounds off' its week of
celebrations with the Feast of the Presentation and the World Day for
Consecrated Life. It also happens to be the opening day for a
week of meetings dedicated to Formation under the leadership of Fr
Cereda and with representatives present from each Region. Fr
Francis Gustilo of the Mobile Formation Team is here for EAO.
