MELBOURNE
-- Good Friday Morning, the Vietnamese community
at St. Margaret Mary's Parish Brunswick, an inner-city suburb
of Melbourne, led the traditional Way of the Cross. St.
Margaret Mary's Parish has traditionally acted out the "Way of
the Cross" largely organised by its Australian and Italian
parish membership. This year the Vietnamese community in the
parish organised the event, presenting it as it might have
been long ago ...
Images of the Cross
Vietnamese parish members designed the occasion, echoing
circumstances in Vietnam at the time of the Vietnamese
martyrs, while following the traditional 'stations' of the
Cross as we know them. It was all accompanied by a judicious
choice of music which created an atmosphere that led people,
regardless of their being Australian, Italian or Vietnamese,
to empathise with the sufferings of Jesus ...
A packed church of 500 followed the event intensely - it was
all enacted inside the Church. Parish Priest, Fr Anthony
Nguyen Huu Quang SDB, was the main celebrant.
The many Australians, Italians and Vietnamese who attended
left somewhat red-eyed, moved by the powerful and lifelike
presentation of each station.
