Real
Madrid to seek football cooperation with DB Lahore?
LAHORE:
19 April 2012--
Call this breaking news if you will, but it seems that Spanish
Club
Real Madrid would like to set up a football school in Pakistan
in close
cooperation with Don Bosco, Lahore. Fr Miguel Ángel
Ruíz indicated this
recently after receiving the information from the Spanish
Embassy in
Islamabad. The Ambassador is fully supportive of the idea.
Real Madrid has a number of trademark 'social-sports
academies' set up
worldwide by the Real Madrid Foundation. Real Madrid are not
entirely
new to Asia. Their maiden project of this kind was in fact in
India's
West Bengal State where they have an institute catering to 150
students
between the ages of 7-15 years. They have also very
recently been
engaged in negotiations in Kerala State (Kochi) to set up a
similar
institute. Real Madrid have also signed a deal to set up a
$1billion
resort island in the United Arab Emirates.
However..... Real Madrid recently, and obviously in the light
of their
expansion into such places, officially removed the Cross from
the crown
in their shield. This has generated a heated debate in
the Spanish
press. Some of the more heated fans (!!) are wondering if they
also
intend to alter names like Cristiano Ronaldo, or Ángel
di Maria.
But at the very least, they may now find that they have to
deal with Fr
Miguel Ángel Ruíz! Miguel is insistent that if
DB is to have something
to do with RM, then the cross had better get put back on the
crown!
We'll watch how that one plays out. Real Madrid are not the
only
Spanish club to have done this. FC Barcelona have the St
George Cross
on their shield, and when merchandise, including the jersey,
goes out
to Muslim countries, the horizontal bar is removed.
