Vietnam celebrates Blessed Artemides Zatti as
Brothers Day for the Province
HO CHI MINH CITY: 16th March 2007 -- The Vietnam Province has made the celebration of
Blessed Artemides Zatti a major annual event as a way of celebrating the very
large presence of Salesian Brothers (nearly 40 of them) in the Province. The
day was prepared for by each community in the province by way of a triduum of
prayer, praying for the Brothers and also for new vocations to this key element
of Salesian consecrated life.
Practically all the Brothers in the Province came together
on 15th at Phuoc Loc community, accompanied by the Provincial and the Vice
Provincial. A particular focus for this gathering was to directly follow up the
Regional seminar for Brothers held in Phnom Penh last August 20-25. The
Brothers pondered a question put to them by Fr Cereda: although you could have
become a priest, you became a Brother. Why?
One of the ways of encouraging the Brother vocation is
precisely to bring Brothers together to share their experiences, and then to
extend that sharing to the prenovices and novices.
The highpoint of the celebrations on 15th March was the Mass
celebrated in honour of Blessed Artemides Zatti, at which Fr John Baptist Them,
Provincial, presided. In his homily, Fr Them reminded those gathered of the
Salesian call to holiness that each must respond to. The day concluded
with a cheerful 'agape' meal.
