Local Salesian bursars from ITM meet in
Jakarta; Dili dropped from programme
JAKARTA: 8th March 2007 -- Fr Gianni Mazzali has arrived in Jakarta from
Guwahati (India) to conduct a formation session of several days duration for
local bursars ('economers' in Salesian-speak). He arrived on Sunday 4th
March and was due to go on the following day to Dili, East Timor, but as
already reported in austraLasia, the circumstances there in the capital
especially are tense and even dangerous, and Fr Mazzali was advised to cancel
his forward trip.
Of the eight local bursars who were due to join Fr Mazzali
in Dili, just two were able to make it to Jakarta. The meeting is being
held at Tigaraksa, a Salesian formation (prenovitiate) community on the
outskirts of the sprawling capital of Indonesia. The actual course began
on Tuesday 6th and concludes today, 8th.
While in Jakarta, Fr Mazzali has had the opportunity to
visit the Post novititate, St John Bosco Parish and the FMA community located
near to each other in North Jakarta at Sunter.
Photos of these encounters can be found on ANS or at the
province level for ITM on www.sdb.org
Indonesia has been very much in the news, in addition to
troubles further East in independent Timor Leste - a severe earthquake (6.3) in
Smatra which has killed 73 people and injured a further 194, and a plane crash
in Yogyakarta, south of Jakarta yesterday, which has killed 22 people.
Salesians or Salesian personnel have not been involved in either tragedy.
