GAMES

SUVA: 28th June -- The 2003 South Pacific Games
opened in Suva today in typical Fiji 'winter' weather - warm drizzle; it did not
dampen the spirits of the thousands of participants and observers present.
Amongst these were a number of particpants from Salesian presences in PNG, Samoa
and Fiji. One Salesian, Brother Tino Iakopo, a member of the Don Bosco
House Formation community in Suva, was prominent as a performer for the opening
ceremony - as a member of the choir, then subsequently as part of the Samoan
Dancing Troupe. He has been invited to participate similarly in the
closing cermeony in two weeks time. Two current students from Don Bosco
Alafua are members of the Samoan Cricket Team, and several Bosconians from
Gabutu PNG are members of other teams from that country. The Games
continue for a further two
weeks.
