December 08, 2020
Don Bosco My Thuan Technical School – VIE Province, 6 December 2020 -- On the second Sunday of Advent, 06 December 2020, the Bishop of Vinh Long diocese, Peter Huynh Van Hai presided at the mass in the new chapel of Don Bosco My Thuan technical school. Before the mass he had been the first one to have opened and entered through the main door of the chapel.
In his homily the bishop reminded everyone to give this chapel a right respect and honor because this is the house of God. He said: “A chapel is a place for the community to gather in the worship of God. It is also the place to prepare the way in order for the Lord to come to everyone through prayers and sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist. A chapel is a place where people meet God to listen to His word and communicate with Him. So we need to respect it, especially we are not allowed to defile this chapel by any sinful action.”
After the prayers of the faithful came the rites of blessing of the altar by the bishop then the mass continued.
Before the mass ended, Fr. Kim Long, rector of Don Bosco My Thuan community, expressed his gratitude to the bishop and to everyone. Lunch was serve after the mass in family spirit with some items prepared by the students of the school and from the guests.
The new chapel was built at the center of the community’s compound where everyone easily visits and comes for prayers and worship. It stands for one of the three inseparable elements of Don Bosco’s Preventive System: Region, Reason and Loving Kindness.
There are around 300 boarders in this community: 250 boys and 50 girls accompanied by thirteen Salesians and three FMA sisters. The new chapel can hold 500 people. As the bishop mentioned in his homily, this chapel will be the place for the Salesians, FMA sisters and the boarders gather and pray together to encounter and communicate with God.
