FOOTBALL UPDATE: MANILA
by Francis Gustilo
Manila 27th November: It will take another year of waiting before our
international team will figure in a similar football league. For now, the
championship remains elusive! The salesian team comprising students
of theology from 5 Asian nations lost 4-0 to a highly vaunted team from
the International School of Manila. Though they trounced this team
during the elimination round (4-1 in our favor), the opponents got back
at our team with a similar flurry of goals. End result: we wound up as
First Runner-up and our Tondo Youth Center instead won their last game,
taking the Second-Runner up honors.
The students of theology received another trophy (Fair Play Team of
the tournament) for having received only two yellow cards during the whole
duration of the tournament. Speaks well of good breeding and sportsmanship
of our confreres? Well, we are sure they possess more than that.
Await a more detailed description of this interesting studentate of
theology in Manila. Football after all is just one of the varied
features of the life of these confreres.
