5th Asian Youth Day underway
MANILA: 24th November 2009 -- Imus Diocese, Philippines, (south
of Manila, close to Parañaque) is hosting the 5th Asian Youth
Day,
which began on 23rd November. In the immediate lead-up, any
number of
youth and Salesians from across Asia have been active in preparation.
Nov. 21 – Some students of theology from the
Seminaryo ng Don Bosco
participated in the activities of the first part of the Asian Youth Day
called “Days in the Diocese”. They helped as facilitators in the group
sharing of the youth who were gathered at the “Diocesan Center of
Evangelization” of the Diocese of Parañaque. The youth were
given
input, asked to reflect and share their insights and thoughts on Pope
John Paul II’s Theology of the Body.
Nov. 22 – The National Shrine of Mary Help of
Christians was the
host for the conclusion of the “Days in the Diocese.” In a particular
way, the Diocese of Parañaque was host to the youth delegations
from
Pakistan, Cambodia, China and Myanmar who spent the weekend with their
foster families in the Diocese of Parañaque and likewise with
the other
different local delegations and groups of young people coming from the
different archdioceses and dioceses from the Philippines. The
Concluding Eucharist at which the Bishop of the Diocese of
Parañaque,
Most Rev. Jesse Mercado, DD presided and which was concelebrated by
about 20 priests was attended by at least 1000, most of them young
people. Fr. Leo Ochoa SDB, who is accompanying a delegation from
Cambodia was among the concelebrants. The young people who served as
animators made the Eucharist very alive and youthful with their dances.
A band of students of theology formed the choir for the Mass and took
charge of the music. They led the singing along with another smaller
group of the “Singles for Christ” choir.
The youth delegates have now gone on to the
neighbouring Diocese of
Imus— where all the activities for the Asian Youth Day will be held.
