EAO Editors a strong presence at SB world convention
ROME: 11th September 2005 -- The EAO Region had a group
of ten members at the recently concluded SB Editors' convention at
Sacro Cuore in Rome. They represented all levels of the renewal and
relaunching programme for the Salesian Bulletin, from its central
services in Rome to those who as yet do not have a Salesian Bulletin
but have begun the planning processes to bring it into being in their
province or vice province (Japan and Indonesia-East Timor).
In his concluding words to the gathered editors, Fr Tarcisio
Scaramussa drew on the clear link between Don Bosco's vision and his
direct words contained in his circular letter on The Spreading of Good
Books 120 years ago, and the vision and words of the ninth successor of
Don Bosco, Fr Pascual Chávez. The Salesian Bulletin essentially
provides a view into the Salesian world, strengthening the sense of
belonging within the Salesian Family, as well as offering a view onto
the world at large, through Salesian eyes, thus strengthening our
missionary sense.
Fr Scaramussa stressed the importance of quality and
professionalism, echoing the very same emphases that came from the
editors themselves. But amongst the most important of the challenges
identified by the editors, by speakers - some from well outside the
Salesian world - and then repeated by Fr Scara mussa, was that of the
'conversion', if you like of each Salesian and each Salesian community
to the realisation that Don Bosco wanted them to be the promoters of
the Salesian Bulletin, "as a privileged instrument for fostering the
charism and a form of institutional marketing".
Speakers, the presence of the Rector Major, the welcome and support
of communities at the Pisana and Sacro Cuore were of great value over
this week, but all agree that the greatest value of all was sixty
editors from around the world meeting, sharing and enjoying one
another's presence in a true spirit of Salesian conviviality and
purpose.
