First professions in
Indonesia and in East Timor. Hospital is no excuse!
TIGARAKSA: 1 Auust 2005 --
At the beginning of the month of Don Bosco's birth, on the feast of St.
Alphonsus de Liguori, the Salesian family gathered with Fr. Vaclav
Klement, to witness the first profession of seven novices at
Tigaraksa, among them, three professed as lay Salesians. The seven newly professed were born in
Indonesia, most of them in the islands of Flores, one
thousand seven hundred kilometres from Jakarta.
One novice, following an apendectomy three days ago,
gained doctor's permission to return for the event. The
Provincial, Fr Andres Calleja, fetched him from the hospital early in
the morning and they braved the two-hour battle with traffic across the
city of Jakarta, so that the novice could join his companions at the
Mass and the rite of profession at 10:30 a.m.
Five
brothers and twelve clerical candidates have now been added to the
number of confreres in the vice province of Indonesia-East Timor (ITM). There were an additional ten newly
professed confreres from the Novitiate in Fatumaca, East Timor.
Together, the seventeen will now continue their post-novitiate
formation in the designated houses of formation.
In the evening of the same day, the
Tigaraksa Novitiate formators have welcomed the next batch
of twelve candidates who had applied to enter the novitiate for
this new cycle. May this inspire the beginning of more holy
Salesian presences in the seventeen thousand islands of Indonesia, and
the birth of more missionaries.
