DAVAO CITY: 10th February 2010 -- Fr. John Cardinal SDB, in
charge
of Don Bosco Boys’ Town, has received an award for his centre,
adjudged as the BEST NGO (Non Government Organization) in Davao City,
Philippines during the 59th Founding Anniversary of the (DSWD)
Department
of Social Welfare and Development last January 26,2010.
The reasons given for being chosen as the Best NGO
were: [1] good management of the programs of the centre; [2] as
accredited by the DSWD standards; [3] consistently true to its
Vision and Mission [4] the most improved as evaluated by the Standards
Bureau.
It was the only NGO to receive an award for the
occasion, and in fact, the only NGO to receive an award in many
years!
Fr. John, who heads the home for street children,
has
about 60 boys under his care. He admits during an interview that it is
really hard work and has demanded much perseverance on his part and
that
of his predecessors to put in place the system of Don Bosco, especially
when running the centre means linking up with different organizations
including government.
