Köln, here we come - to worship!

EAO: 9th July 2005 --  A follow-up to an earlier item requesting information of groups from the Region who will be attending WYD with the simple idea of creating awareness and expectation.  The small-print details like who meets who and where can be worked out once the above has been achieved!  The central meeting point for the Salesian Youth Movement remains the same: 'Don Bosco Weltweit' (DB Worldwide) August 17th 14.00 (2 pm for the rest of us) at the Don Bosco Club in Cologne's Mülheim district.  It is a youth culture festival, bands and the like and the opportunity for Salesian groups to participate and perform if they wish and if they announce the fact beforehand.  There are detailed maps of how to get there.  Go to www.salesianer.info/index.htm for further information.
Groups are still letting us know, the information dribbles in, but at this point we can tell you:
China has 85 going in its group - with young people and Salesians from HK, Macau, Taiwan and some past pupils from US and Canada.  They are going via Turin and Benediktbeuern.
From Korea a group of 90, coming in through Rome and heading North through Turin to eventually arrive in Vienna, Prague and finally Munich and Cologne. Afterwards they'll return via Paris.
Cambodia has a group of 11, which includes also a Salesian from Thailand and 6 Thai SYM from North East Thailand.  They are working through the Dutch, so will go to Amsterdam for starters, on to Cologne and then return via Amsterdam again.
Mongolia too has a group, though it forms part of the Catholic Mission group from there, a group of 18.  They have more difficulty in getting visas.  They are working through the German embassy and have been told they may go only to Germany, no side trips allowed.
Australia - Darwin, where the Salesians have a parish, has two SYM attending.  They too will go with the larger group from that diocese.  Not sure of their actual route and arrangements, but they have about the furthest to travel of all the groups, as can be appreciated.
From outside the region two other groups have been in touch.  New Jersey US has a group of 55 going.  They come in via Turin and on to Cologne.  In Cologne they are staying at the EuropGarden Hotel.   The UK has a group of 10 going through Benediktbeuern and on to Cologne.
There will be others.  Have not heard yet from Japan, Philippines to name two who almost certainly will have groups.  Will be in touch when and if.
