LOS ANGELES: 6 July 2005 -- From LA comes the news of
a major celebration and exhibition at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the
Angels for the 9th July, Feast of the Chinese Martyrs. The theme
is especially to pray for the evangelisation of China, and the event is
being organised on behalf of the extensive Chinese community in that
city by the St Bridgets Chinese Catholic Centre (Fr Joseph Cheng sdb)
and two other archdiocesan centres, St Thomas Aquinas and St Elizabeth
Ann Seton.
From June 26th there has already been a major
exhibition in the Cathedral of the story of the Chinese martyrs and the
long story of Chinese evangelisation. The aim is clearly that of
reminding people of the sacrifice and also the glorious story involved
in evangelisation in China, but also for local Chinese communities to
come together in the experience of being one in Christ with their
brothers and sisters in China. Through understanding and prayer
they hope to facilitate open dialogue and normalisation of
relationships between the Church and their homeland.
