SEOUL: 14th June 2005 -- The Association of Salesian
Cooperators (ASC) in South Korea, in the light of a changeover of
its provincial council membership, has been taking
stock. With some 38 Centres throughout the nation and 500
members, the Korean ASC is a strong organisation, also ready to
acknowledge where its weaker points might lie.
The association has a regular newsletter, KOSCO, one
of two such newsletters in the EAO region (the other being
Japan). Roughly 600 copies of this are distributed each
time. There is also an online edition http://www.iacs.or.kr Their news service is fed by five active
correspondents throughout the Centres.
The outgoing Coordinator, Mr Henry Woo, under whose
presidency the 5th EAO ASC Conference was held in Seoul last year, has
recognised the growth in numbers over the past six years, but
acknowledges that while individual apostolates are excellent, the
common apostolate of Centres is not always as strongly marked.
The initial formation of members is well planned,
based on a 3 year cycle with appropriate printed materials to
help. But Mr Woo indicated that ongoing formation remains a
challenge for the Association. The new Coordinator, who has a
term of three years, along with other newly elected members of the
council, is Mr Kim Hyun Soo (John).
