Mongolia - two more Congregations added to the fold:
MC and FMA
ULAAN BAATAR: 14th June 2005:-- Mongolia, the 'domisal' focus for 2005, is on the move
again.
Just last month the formal, quiet opening of the new community and work
in Darkhan took place. In the space of a year that work has been
chosen, built, paid for and is very much alive as the Congregation's
newest presence.
And now comes the good news that both the Salesian
Sisters and the
Missionaries of Charity have taken formal steps to set up in
Mongolia.
In the former case, the first week of June saw a visit by Sr Dominica
Park, FMA Provincial of Korea; in the latter case, a forthcoming visit
by the Superior General of the MC Sisters, Sr Nirmala, should see
finalisation of a plan to bring another community into Darkhan, amidst
the poorest of the poor.
While a number of practical decisions as to who,
where and how have
yet to be arrived at, the FMA decision to extend their missionary
presence into Mongolia is a welcome one. Almost certainly, along
similar lines to those adopted by the SDB community, the new
missionaries will be a cosmopolitan
group, and a well-prepared one in terms of missiology and experience.
There are almost unlimited options for work -
Mongolia is a large
country with many needs. But the existing SDB presence in the
capital
city and in Darkhan certainly offer a stable basis for an apostolic
partnership on behalf of the poorest of young people, boys and girls
both. There is already a flourishing street-children work run by
Salesians in the capital, with equal numbers of girls and boys in need
of help.
VOCABULARY
